Who: Alisha Lee, 51, of Hoover. She's a divorced mother of 24-year-old Kiara Ellison, a cosmetology student in Hoover; and 19-year-old Trey Lee, a sophomore and track runner at Auburn University. She's been a federal government employee for 23 years and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Her co-worker, Penny McPherson, nominated her. What are you wearing? Her daughter did her hair, and Alisha did her own nails. "I started doing my nails about four years ago when I started wearing natural nails," she said.
Describe your style. "I like dressing casual. You've got to add a little flair to it."
Where do you get your fashion inspiration beach evening dresses beach evening dresses? mother of the bride outfit "Just me. If I'm looking for something specific, beach bridesmaid dresses beach bridesmaid dresses I've got to feel it. I don't do the fashion magazines. The most I do is look at your column. I don't get ideas from (those featured.) I just like to see what they are wearing."
What kind of makeup are you wearing? "I'm a Fashion Fair girl. I've been one ever since I was in college when I started wearing makeup. You tend to do what your mom does and she's always worn Fashion Fair. And she still does. She's 72."
Where did you get your love of fashion? "My mom is a retired nurse and she always wore uniforms. Since she couldn't really shop for herself, she'd shop for me at the Emily Shop on the Southside. She bought me one-of-a-kind clothes. That kind of sparked my love for clothing. I don't have any sisters, and she'd always buy me things that were really, really nice."
What's in your purse? I noticed it was kind of heavy while I held it for the photo shoot. Cell phone, ... Carl Webber's "Player Hater'' book. This is the sixth book of his that I've read in two months. Coach eyeglass case, two sets of keys, a Fashion Fair compact and two lipsticks because I like to mix them up and make my own colors.''
You said that your favorite color is orange. Is that because your son goes to Auburn? "No, I was an Auburn fan when I was (in college) at Tuskegee in the '80s. I like orange because it's just so fresh. You can wear it year-round. (She wore Orange Crush-colored nail polish from Walmart.)
You said you are a 1977 graduate of Jackson-Olin High School, where you were head majorette. Do you miss it? we offer 2011 lace wedding dresses,white wedding dress designers,lace wedding dress and wedding gowns "I still twirl just for exercise. My mom was head majorette when she was at Hooper City High School, and my daughter was a dancer at Miles College. When I twirl, I go into the basement or in the driveway. You have to have something to keep you going."
Anything else? "I don't mix my church clothes with my work clothes. I have work clothes that never come to church, and I have church clothes and shoes that never come to work."
Why? "That was kind of a rule me and my mother, Cecile Blackmon, had. Back then, bridesmaid dresses ireland you didn't' want to wear your good patent leather shoes to school because they might get scuffed up. We had Sunday shoes and Sunday dresses dresses ."
So I guess old habits are hard to break, huh? "Yes, they are. They kind of stay with you always."
