PETER EGGERS NEWS AND REVIEWS

Peter Eggers is a composer of passionate, powerful, emotionally evocative "visual music" in mixed genres: quirky instrumental rock, dark ambient electric chamber music, deliciously demented progressive fusion, strange cinematic soundscapes, playfully funky reggae pop, intricate classically-flavored Latin jazz, polyrhythmic melodic minimalism, shamelessly romantic tone poems, and edgy electronic contemporary music.

Daryll Dobson, avant rock/fusion guitar wizard (The Mind Electric, Reality Check, Healing Intentions), discovered Peter's music on MySpace, and signed Eggers to the SolarGuitars label. SolarGuitars will be releasing 2 albums in 2008: Wishful Thinking and Extreme Measures. Opposites in every way, each album is the emotional "flip side" of the other.

Glass half-full, Wishful Thinking traffics in hopes and dreams, wishes and desires. Fantastic notions, small wonders, and simple pleasures combine with brief moments of perfect harmony to populate intriguing soundworlds and tuneful grooves. Positively user-friendly, it’s the calm before the storm of Extreme Measures.

Far from normal, Extreme Measures mixes moody lullabies, weird waltzes, and bipolar hymns of bittersweet beauty with unnerving pulse-pounding percussive assaults on the senses. Unleashing forces of primal power and a feverish, frenzied intensity, these are nightmarish visions from over the edge. Churning chamber music of the heart from the dark night of the soul.

Peter Eggers was in the progressive rock/fusion band fred; played on a wonderfully weird record date with Yoko Ono; rehearsed with the legendary Stan Getz for an album that never materialized; recorded in France with SergePerathoner, DavidRose, and the other members of Transit Express; and has written music for film, TV, and dance. He has also worked extensively in video post production, editing music videos for The Rolling Stones, Rick James, Nile Rodgers, and David Van Tieghem.

Wishful Thinking and Extreme Measures both feature strikingly original instrumental compositions in a wide variety of styles, with Peter Eggers playing multiple layers of keyboards and percussion. The music is influenced by a diverse set of composers: Frédéric Chopin, Frank Zappa, Igor Stravinsky, Bernard Herrmann, Béla Bartók, John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Olivier Messiaen, Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Harold Budd, and Patrick O'Hearn.

Guest artists appear on Extreme Measures on 3 tracks recorded at Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios in 1975: monster drummer Gerry Brown (later recording with Stanley Clarke on the influential School Days album), blistering bass player John Lee (part of Larry Coryell's ground-breakingEleventh House band), & whirlwind virtuoso electric violinist David Rose (from Pennsylvania's early 70s progressive rock/fusion band fred, and later the classic French fusion group Transit Express).

Previously released music by Peter Eggers is presently available on the following CDs:

fred's white-hot fusion album live at the bitter end (2004); fred's eclectic, eccentric studio album Notes on a Picnic (2003); David Rose's emotionally explosive Distance Between Dreams (2000); and the David Rose Group's awesome Live album (2003).
